answered Math Anxiety
I've been scared of numbers since I started school, probably before. I always struggled with maths in contrast to other school subjects. I found the teacher's oral explanations using the blackboard hard to follow and too fast. So I got put down into the class that only did the much lower level exam and I gave up. The school gave up on us as well. But I needed it to become a teacher, even though you never actually use it. So, as an adult, I signed up for a one year Maths course, and the summer before it started I did maths all day every day from the course textbook. I enjoyed it and was really hyperfocused. We had a good teacher and worked in pairs so we were never just stuck during the lesson. It was a small group. I got a B, which was the highest I could get at the Intermediate level. I think it was more calculations I struggled with than maths. Now though, I can't remember any of it. I'm still bad at calculations and shy away from numbers. I often read clocks wrong, forget numbers, remember or write them down wrongly, find bus and train timetables impossible. I have to have help with finances sometimes. Mine is a comorbidity of ADD.
